Welcome Back: WGRamirez.com Is Just Getting Started
By W.G. RAMIREZ
There’s something special about coming home.
For me, that’s what relaunching WGRamirez.com feels like.
Over the years, this website has been a place where I’ve written about what matters to me: sports, sports betting, the athletes and teams I cover, and sometimes life itself.
Now, it’s time to breathe new life into this place.
And if you’ve been paying attention, you already know we’ve gotten started.
I recently brought you a three-part series involving two of the greatest players in women’s basketball, A’ja Wilson and Breanna Stewart, including exclusive conversations with both.
I’ve written about the championship core of Wilson, Chelsea Gray and Jackie Young and what that trio has meant to the Las Vegas Aces.
I also wrote a column involving A’ja and "Pointgate."
And there is plenty more coming.
As part of this next chapter, I’ll also be bringing a few UNLV journalism students aboard, giving aspiring young writers a chance to gain experience while providing additional coverage and write-ups across UNLV athletics.
The goal of relaunching WGRamirez.com is simple: fresh content, consistently.
You can expect at least five or six new pieces every week, covering the things many of you have followed me for over the years.
Las Vegas sports.
Columns and commentary.
Sports betting.
And occasionally, something much more personal.
Which brings me to this week.
September was Suicide Prevention Awareness Month, and as it came to an end, I’m once again prepared to revisit a subject that has been an important part of my life and my writing.
Every Conversation Matters
On Oct. 3, 2023, I published one of the most personal columns I’ve ever written. I opened up about my battles with depression and suicidal ideation - both of which I had been clinically diagnosed with — and shared a side of myself that, for many years, very few people knew existed.
That column traveled farther than I ever imagined.
Three years later, on Oct. 3, 2026, I’ll share an update.
A lot has happened.
A lot has changed.
After 10 of the roughest months of my life medically, including a devastating leg injury, the physical pain became something much more.
It sent me back down that dark rabbit hole, toward an abyss where old demons were waiting.
This time, though, the story isn’t only about how far down I went.
It’s about how I’m fighting my way back.
That story will come soon enough.
For now, consider this my official invitation to come back.
Bookmark WGRamirez.com. Check in throughout the week. Share the stories that move you, debate the columns that piss you off, celebrate the teams and athletes you love, and maybe even cash a ticket or two along the way.
Most importantly, know that this website is alive again.
The stories are coming.
The opinions aren’t going anywhere.
And neither am I. Because every conversation matters.
Welcome back to WGRamirez.com.
I’m just getting started.
