This Month: Mental Health

New month, new edition of the redesigned WGRamirez.com.

And this one is quite a bit more personal for me.

Last month I introduced the relaunch of my website with a Societal Climate-themed edition.

This month the theme is Mental Health and Suicide Awareness.

I purposely delayed the topic until after we recognized Suicide Awareness Month in September, because for me it's something that should be discussed every single day.

As I will every month, I have three stories for you - one personal, one feature and something pro-related now that Las Vegas has become a bona fide professional sports town.

I've known Shelby Estocado since coaching her in Little League Baseball. She welcomed me into her home recently to discuss the tragic snowboard injury that took the use of her legs, and how she's been able to battle her own mental health and depression after the crash at Lee Canyon, along with her girlfriend Molly Weikart.

I also wrote about three local professional athletes from the three premier teams - two of which have played for championships in their respective leagues - and how they're no different off their playing surfaces when it comes to Mental Health.

Finally, as I mentioned last month that I would, I ventured into my own battles with Mental Health and Suicide Awareness, and how a conversation with a close friend five years seemingly talked me off the ledge of making what may have been a fatal decision.

By possible touching on my own struggles with suicidal thoughts, I'm hoping this piece will help others in how to control thoughts they encounter. If I can help one with my own experiences, I'll be satisfied.

As always, have a Blessed day!

Willie G.
